I was nearly 4,000 feet up in the mountains of northern Colombia. A light breeze swept across the highlands. The air was thick with the sweet smell of pine trees. Pineapple groves and verdant valleys surrounded me. A detail of eight armed officers guarded me and my team. The three bulletproof Land Cruisers that brought us up the narrow pass stood in stark contrast to the natural beauty. “One way in; one way out,” the plantation owner told me.
