MTM Options Trader Newsletter - Track Market Correlation, Price Targets and Profit Potential

This Week in the Market

The market's signs of weakness from the previous week came to fruition. Stocks took a deep dive lower (especially growth stocks) but were able to rally enough on Friday to keep the bears from completely dominating the week. The Dow even closed at an all-time high on Wednesday. Nasdaq continues to be the weakest of the big three and the only index currently below its 50-day moving average. Clearly a line in the sand for a bullish trigger for the index. Implied volatility levels spiked but not as high as in the beginning of February. The market continues to look like a volatile playground for traders as this week's action could determine whether we will see another recovery from this latest pullback or a continued slide moving forward.

There are several economic reports due out this week including the latest unemployment figures for February. In addition, the $1.9 billion relief package is being solicited with no firm resolution in place at the time of this writing. Clearly, news on more than one front may move the market. There are a few earnings worth noting particularly with some retail stocks. As always, there is nothing wrong with sitting on your hands if you don't feel you have an edge. Have a safe and healthy week!

Track Market Correlation, Price Targets and Profit Potential

When markets begin to trend, they frequently do so with fast and furious moves. It's important to track market correlation, price targets and profit potential. Quite often there are clues or patterns that occur prior to a breakout and just after one. It is a trader's goal to recognize that critical moment when a directional trade or trend commences. Identifying a pre-trend pattern enhances the odds of catching a move early, also known as timing.

MTM Watchlist

Here are several trade ideas we will be researching this coming week in group coaching class:

BA – The stock has been stable and aggressive at times. Potential calendar spreads and bull call spreads will be considered depending on how the stock reacts early in the week.

UPS – The stock has wandered down to some potential support in the $157 to $158 area. Bull put spreads just below that level will be examined, or a gap below that level will give bearish traders an opportunity with bear put spreads.

GLD – An extended move lower last week may set up a bullish opportunity this coming week. Long calls and bull call spreads will be explored.
