Let's Make A Deal - Senate moderates come through on infrastructure

Also, Pelosi says GOP leader is a moron
Ever bought into an IPO on the day it opened?

It's not typically a strategy I'd recommend when you consider lockup periods and, for me, a lack of price history to work with...

But IPOs have been incredibly hot lately.

For instance, Flora Growth Corp. ran well over 200% in a matter of days and Cricut gained close to the same after three months.

With SPACs being put on the backburner, the IPO trade might be an area for you to start watching.

I'd just wait for the initial shakeout before hopping in the minute it opens...

And that especially goes for today's Robinhood debut which you can read about it in a moment.

But today, Dr. Moors comes to us with another Spy Tale that will give you a break from the market.

Unlike the market, his work as a spy never stopped... Not even on Christmas in Germany.

Check it out below.

WORD ON THE STREET
Shake on It, Poor Rich Trevor, Wally World Scholars

  • Infrastructure Parties On - We can thank the moderates for being moderate as the bipartisan infrastructure bill is set to move on to the next stage. Lawmakers in the Senate finally agreed to a $1.2 infrastructure package that failed last week's "test vote." According to Republican Senator Rob Portman, the bill is paid for with funds coming from unemployed assistance programs that have been identified as fraud, but the final cost is still being assessed by the Congressional Budget Office. Speaking of fraud...

  • Billionaire Fraud Charges - As if it wasn't hard enough for Nikola (NKLA) investors to hold onto their shares, a ghost from the past is pushing the EV semitruck maker downhill once again. Early Thursday morning, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced that it was indicting former CEO Trevor Milton on three accounts of criminal fraud for misleading investors. The official indictment put it another way, however, stating that Milton lied about "nearly all aspects of the business." We found a copy of the original Nikola logo drawn by Milton:
  • University of Walmart - The U.S.'s biggest employer announced a commitment to pay the full cost of tuition and books through its LBU (Live Better U) program. Through its LBU program, Walmart (WMT) partners with a number of colleges and has stated that close to $1 billion is being earmarked for the program through 2026. Employees of both Walmart and Sam's Club are eligible. Your move, Costco.

  • The Day of... - Later today, Robinhood (HOOD) will officially go public after an incredibly controversial first half of the year. Shares of the investing mobile app are priced at $38, but the company is doing something that has yet to be done. Close to a third of the company's shares will be directly offered to Robinhood users prior to being open for trade. Analysts speculate that this was done as a way of carrying out the company's mission of "democratizing finance for all." Maybe it's a way of saying "sorry" as well.

HOT SPOTS: What's Going on in Geopolitics

  • Coincidence, COVID, Or Conspiracy? - The island nation of Cuba has seen five generals die in the last nine days. Of course, most were elderly and so it could just be natural causes or a COVID outbreak. However, the wave of deaths is leading to rumors of political instability. Cuba has been rocked in recent weeks by protests against the Communist regime.

  • Israel Poised To Approve Third COVID Shot For Older People - Well, we knew this was coming. Experts in the Israeli government have suggested a third booster shot for older people, as the vaccine's effectiveness in preventing severe symptoms has dropped more than 15 percent so far this year. Health Minister Nachman Ash will reportedly make a final decision soon. Pfizer has been pushing for similar action in the United States. The new delta variant is creating the possibility that the pandemic is far from over.

  • China Expands Nuclear Capabilities - China is reportedly building a new string of missile silos in the western desert. New satellite imagery shows about 110 silos. This is besides another new field of about 120 silos. The Federation of American Scientists reports it is "the most significant expansion of the Chinese nuclear arsenal ever." Sleep tight!
CUTTING EDGE: What's Happening In Tech

  • Synchron Inc. Beats Neuralink To FDA Trial - Synchron Inc. has won the race to an FDA trial for its brain-computer interface device. The New York based startup beat out flashier rivals, including Elon Musk's Neuralink. The company's device is implanted via a blood vessel at the base of the neck, thus avoiding the need for brain surgery. The goal is to allow paralyzed patients to control external devices using only their thoughts.

  • delta-8 A Cannabis Workaround? - The marijuana industry is one of the most quickly growing sectors in the economy. However, it's in a legal gray zone, with federal prohibition clashing with several different state laws and financial institutions hesitant to get involved with the industry. Yet there may be a workaround. The compound delta-8, derived from legal CBD, could be a legal alternative to marijuana. Supporters say it provides a milder high than that created by "normal" marijuana and is on stronger legal ground. But attorneys disagree - not the best climate for new investors.

  • Screentime Can Trigger Motion Sickness - Feeling terrible after a day at the office (or at home on Zoom meetings?) You aren't alone. Researchers are finding that prolonged exposure to electronic devices can cause "cybersickness," feelings of nausea, disorientation, and problems with the nerves that control the eyes. Effects can last as much as 24 hours after exposure. Glasses that block out some blue light are one way to deal with the effects - and blue light generally has been linked to a number of problems, including poor sleep quality. Remember, there's more to life than staring at a screen all day.
Just put the thing down and go to bed. Your body will thank you.
FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION

"My responsibility in all of this was CI, something for which I did have some experience: provide physical 'sweep' support against counterparty surveillance, securing areas prior to a meeting, running parallel routes to determine if either party to the handoff was under active surveillance, and setting up countermeasures if they were."

"The Great Game" never stops - not even for Christmas. In this week's "Spy Tale," Dr. Kent Moors recalls a stressful Christmas in what was then West Germany.

It's a fascinating look into what an "ordinary" counterintelligence operation really entailed. Dr. Kent Moors is one of the privileged few who can show you what spycraft is really all about.

Joann Inc. (JOAN) is one of the few IPOs I would have bought in the first week, solely based on the simplicity of their business model.

And I'm kicking myself for sleeping on it, although there looks to be more upside.

What's visible from the two white arrows and gray, highlighted box is a W-bottom with a retest of the middle of the W.

Since then, the chart is showing an accumulation pattern on the verge of breaking out to the next level above the recent high of $17.50 to ~$20.00+ if we're looking at a measured move.

A solid break and close above the white trendline signals more upside, but a break below ~$14.50 tells me that it's time to head for the exit.

Trade wisely.
