A man in Chile who was unintentionally paid 286 times his usual wage left the country.
The banking blunder happened in May, and the individual promised his boss that he would reimburse him for the overpayment. But instead, he left his position and disappeared.
The average monthly salary for the man was 500,000 Chilean pesos ($550). Instead, he received 165,398,851 pesos ($179,600).
According to the financial news website Diario Financiero, the individual worked for Consorcio Industrial de Alimentos (Cial), one of Chile's top producers of cold-cut meats. When human resources discovered the significant banking issue, Cial contacted the affected employee to discuss the erroneous payment.
According to Diario Financiero, the individual agreed to arrange the reimbursement by visiting his bank the following morning, but he failed to report for duty.
