Not only are there several geopolitical issues that are affecting on Wall Street, but it is yet another jam-packed week of earnings, with 145 S&P 500 companies set to release their earnings reports. Here are some of the biggest market-movers that you should be keeping an eye on this week... Brexit delay: Markets were up this morning as EU governments voted unanimously to extend the Brexit deadline. The United Kingdom now has until January 31 to get the new Brexit deal passed by Parliament. Whether or not that happens will depend on the results of the general election set to be called soon. This is one the major reasons U.S. markets opened up this morning. Interest rates: The Fed's two-day policy meeting begins on Tuesday. Traders are already expecting that interest rates will be lowered 0.25%, putting the chances of that happening at above 94%. What will move markets more is how Chair Powell describes the Fed's future outlook, and whether he signals another rate cut or other monetary easing measures for December. Cloud computing: Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) is up this morning, while Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) opened modestly down on news that Microsoft beat out its rival and frontrunner for the Pentagon's $10 billion cloud computing contract. Less than a year ago, MSFT was not even considered in the running because of AMZN's huge cloud computing lead. MSFT has significantly closed the gap and won this contract, which is more about capabilities than the actual revenue it will bring in. Earnings #1: Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL) reports on Monday after the close. Traders will be watching to see whether Google's parent company has been able to rein in its spending. With 48 states investigating the company for antitrust violations, any details that can be gleaned about potential regulatory issues could also move the stock. Earnings #2: ...
