There's a new idea to use crypto mining for environmental action. Here are the details. A 2021 report from the Environmental Defense Fund noted 81,000 uncapped and abandoned oil wells within U.S. jurisdiction. The U.S. government could pay to seal these wells … or crypto miners could swoop in, set up shop, and use whatever accessible gas is left to power mining operations. It would generate revenue and once the remaining gas has been used, the mining companies would be responsible for sealing the well.
