Sen. Ben Cardin, a Democrat who has been in office for a long time, said he won't run for re-election. This will make room for a new person to join the Senate.
Cardin said in a video message that it has been 56 years since he first ran for office.
It looks like Democrats are quickly understanding that the Senate won't be fun for them when Republicans take back the majority in 2024.
The news on Monday has made some people think that Larry Hogan, the former Republican governor of Maryland, could run for Cardin's spot.
Though, Hogan's interest in the Senate seat was said to have been low in the past.
During his time in the Senate, Cardin has mostly taken a liberal position on topics like health care, retirement security, the environment, and money.
