World Series

⚾ One win away

The GIST: As October baseball gives way to November baseball, the Fall Classic nears its completion, with the red-hot Texas Rangers just one win away from their first-ever World Series title. But can the Arizona Diamondbacks hiss back?

Games 3 and 4 recap: Texas narrowly took the series lead with Monday's 3–1 Game 3 victory then brought a power and force rarely seen before, erupting early on offense and staving off a late D-Backs comeback attempt in last night's 11–7 win.

  • Those dubs improve the Rangers to 10-0 on the road this postseason, the most-ever playoff road wins in a single run. Mighty morphin', indeed.
  • But they didn't celebrate without concern: Game 3 injuries resulted in Texas losing both ALCS MVP Adolis García and starting pitcher Max Scherzer for the rest of the series.

Game 5 preview: Both squads will turn to top arms — Nathan "Big Game Nate" Eovaldi (who notably struggled in Game 1) for the Rangers and Zac Gallen for the D-Backs — for tonight's 8:03 p.m. ET Game 5 in Arizona.

  • Eovaldi lives for the big moments and could help secure the Rangers their first World Series ring in six decades of existence, but not if the Answerbacks can pull off another epic comeback and send this thing back to Texas.

🏈 Yesterday's NFL trade deadline turned out to be somewhat snoozy, save the Washington Commanders dealing defensive ends Chase Young and Montez Sweat to the San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears, respectively.

🎓🏈 The first College Football Playoff rankings dropped last night, with Ohio State taking the top spot followed by Georgia, Michigan, Florida State, and Washington rounding out the top five. Bring on Bowl season.

🎾 WTA: WTA Finals — Iga Świątek vs. Coco Gauff — Tonight at 6 p.m. ET — Tennis Channel

🏀 NBA: LA Clippers vs. LA Lakers — Tonight at 10 p.m. ET — ESPN

⛳ LPGA: TOTO Japan Classic — Tomorrow through Sunday — Golf Channel

  • After finishing tied for third at the Maybank Championship last weekend, American rookie Rose Zhang has momentum in her favor heading into fall's final LPGA tournament in Asia. Back to the greens she goes.

🏈 NFL: Tennessee Titans vs. Pittsburgh Steelers — Tomorrow at 8:15 p.m. ET — Amazon Prime

  • Titans rookie quarterback (QB) Will Levis will reportedly start under center during Thursday Night Football, not much of a surprise considering he threw twice as many touchdowns in last week's NFL debut as Tennessee QB1 Ryan Tannehill has all season. A changing of the guard.
