Stocks rose yesterday continuing a rally that began last week, but caution is needed in the days to come as no one can say for certain if the market has indeed hit the bottom.

Nevertheless stocks made an impressive show yesterday. The Dow rose 690 points, the S&P rose 85 and the Nasdaq rose 268.

It seems that news yesterday nursed fragile buds of optimism among investors, that the end to this outbreak may yet be in sight.

Trump extended social distancing guidelines through the end of April, a tough but necessary step, that will no doubt have economic repercussions. Nevertheless, investors were heartened by Trumps predictions that we should see the worst of the outbreak within the next two weeks. That news coupled with Johnson & Johnson's announcement that it has a lead candidate for a coronavirus vaccine, hint that the worst of this outbreak may be behind us.

Yet despite strong gains last week, moving averages remain down, which could hint that the underlying trend in the markets is  negative. Investors are still trying to asses what the economic fall out of quarantine's will be, some of which was seen in last weeks unemployment figures.

"The world is now entering a third phase, the first being the shock of an out-of-control virus spreading around the globe, then the massive policy response, and now the economic fallout phase has arrived and will test investors' very fragile confidence," wrote strategists at MRB partners.

The coming week will certainly be a test of that confidence, which given Monday's performance seems to be holding strong.

On CNN's State of the Union this Sunday, Speaker Nancy Pelosi in so many words called Trump the Emperor Nero.

"As the president fiddles, people are dying," she told Jake Tapper. Tapper of course refused to mention the House's own fiddling as it tried  to pass the stimulus bill last week.

After a rambling diatribe, the Speaker further called for, you guessed it an "after action review," in light of Trump's supposed delays in responding to the coronavirus. Delay's that the Speaker said, cost lives.

Fact check, Madam Speaker, wasn't Trump the one who banned travel to both China and Europe? Doesn't everyone remember what the liberal spin jockey's said back then, "travel bans are ineffective.

Fact of the matter is Trump's travel bans have been limiting infections and thus saving lives.

Meanwhile, House Democrats delayed the passage of the stimulus bill by several days last week as they scrambled to the stuff the legislation with bailouts for the Kennedy Center and airline emissions limits.

The Democrat's stall tactics could well have cost lives, but no doubt cost livelihoods as businesses were uncertain as to whether the legislation would pass.

Perhaps the President Trump should tweet "As people are dying Pelosi eat's pork."

Just saying.

At the advice of medical experts, President Trump will be extending social distancing guidelines for another 30 days. You know the medical experts he supposedly ignores?

Although the guidelines were set to expire yesterday, Trump wasn't willing to risk the nations full return to normal life. "We will be extending our guidelines to April 30th, to slow the spread. On Tuesday we will be finalizing these plans and providing a summary of our findings, supporting data, and strategy to the American people," Trump said at a White House briefing on Sunday.

Trump's decision to extend social distancing till the end of the month was hailed by Dr. Anthony Fauci as a "wise and prudent decision.

The same Dr. Anthony Fauci whose supposedly been in conflict with Trump over these past few weeks, as Trump blusters and ignores medical experts and plunges the whole nation along toward certain doom. At least that's the narrative the media's been spinning.

Actions speak louder than headlines. Fact of the matter is by acting to extend the guidelines Trumps shows that he is listening to experts.

A medical fetish website, MedFet UK, is donating some of it's equipment to the UK's National Health Service. Apparently desperate NHS representatives contacted the porn site, for scrubs and other medical equipment as they struggles to keep hospitals stocked while the coronavirus escalates.

The host's of MedFet, issued a tweet that would have seemed to be more at home in parliament than on the feed of a porn site.

"Be under no illusions, this is the result of a decade of chronic underfunding and cuts which has left the NHS barely able to cope under normal circumstances, much less when faced with the onslaught of a global pandemic. It did not, and should not, have to be this way."

Is this turn of events an indictment of socialized medicine, political incompetence or does it speak to the nature of the virus itself?

Who knows. One thing is certain, it's definitely a strange world when public health officials and pqorngraphers are in bed together.
