FOUR tax increases on the way?

Tech sell-off as yield rates rise
Yesterday, I talked about the "momentum trade" and how it is likely a sleeping giant.

But today, President Biden will be unveiling his multi-trillion dollar infrastructure plan... and taxes.

Could today be the alarm clock?

I'd imagine most day and swing traders will have their hands hovering over the mouse as they listen for buzzwords that could send certain stocks soaring, myself included...

But while we wait, be sure to take a moment and read Dr. Moors' latest Spy Tale about some dealings with the KGB in the famous Mari Vanna restaurant...

Link below.

Keep moving,
There's a certain level of clarity you achieve when it comes to successful trading... But what does it take to get there?

Chris goes over the answer in detail and explains how the best traders create the right mindset.

WORD ON THE STREET
Jimmy vs. Cathie, The Devil Wears Nike, Romeo's No-No

  • To Thine Investors Be False – After recently going public via SPAC merger, battery manufacturing company Romeo Power (RMO) had the honor of reporting its earnings for the very first time yesterday. Considering the stock plummeted to an all-time low of $8.50, it goes without saying that it wasn't very good. While most of the figures were subpar, the real shock came when Romeo Power adjusted its guidance for the remainder of 2021, estimating revenues between $18-40 million. A wide range, but the reason this isn't sitting well with investors is the company's investor presentation showed expectations of $140 million. Who bought at the high of $38?

  • Fancy Says ESG is Not So Fancy – Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) has become a growing theme in investing with most highly-rated ESG companies booming across the market, but Tariq Fancy, formerly the CIO of sustainable investing at BlackRock (BLK), isn't feeling it. According to Fancy, publicly traded companies are "for-profit machines that will operate exactly as you would expect them to do". This is a strong deviation from the company's CEO Larry Fink who recently stated the asset manager would be moving away from companies less oriented towards ESG. Fancy, we hope you know that burning bridges is bad for carbon emissions.
HOT SPOTS: What's going on in geopolitics

  • Turkey Lockdown: The unwanted coronavirus comeback is hitting Turkey hard. As a result, weekend lockdowns have been imposed in most provinces. There will also be lockdowns over the Muslim holy days during Ramadan. All Europe is still struggling to contain the disease.

  • Russia Moving On Ukraine?: The two semi-autonomous "People's Republics" carved out of Eastern Ukraine are still not under Kiev's control. Now, there is renewed fighting and the Pentagon reports Russian forces are moving closer to the border region. Will Putin test Biden on this issue? And will Russia simply absorb areas that are dependent on Moscow anyway?

  • China Tracking Groups By Ethnicity: Surveillance companies have been helping the Chinese government build a tracking system that segments people by ethnicity. Human rights experts are worried about how the technology could be used against the Muslim minority in Xinjiang. However, it's unclear what, if anything, can be done to check the CCP.
CUTTING EDGE: What's Happening In Tech

  • Apes Together Strong - In one of the largest countries of the world, a small group of Great Apes is fighting for the survival of its species. Less than 800 Tapanuli orangutans remain, all concentrated in a small area. Saving the species will be a tough fight - its habitat is threatened by a new planned hydroelectric plants, and losing even one percent a year to hunting would doom the apes to extinction.

  • Proof For Hypnosis - Does this stuff really work? Apparently so. Researchers in Finland have found that hypnosis works by preventing different parts of the brain that normally work together from communicating with each other. As a result, the brain processes information in a fundamentally different way. No word on whether Ouija boards are real too.

  • Flying Aircraft Carrier Planned - First, it was calling the members of the Space Force "Guardians." Now, the Defense Department is planning a flying aircraft carrier that wouldn't seem out of place in "The Avengers." Is the military basing its strategies on comic book movies? It's not quite that bad - the floating fortress would be used to dispatch drones. Far more sensible than putting a giant, expensive target in the sky that could be taken down by smaller units.
Turns out the Marvel movies were documentaries
FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION

"Throughout most of the world, the normal 'cover' for such operations was diplomatic, with members of the consular and other crews at embassies serving as intel officers in reality. However, for the Soviets in London, that became exceptionally difficult after September 1971 and 'Operation FOOT.' This was the British expulsion of 105 Soviet officials for spying in what is still the largest single move of its kind in history."

When you think of spying, you may have a romantic image about daring agents engaged in a battle of wits in expensive, elite locations. Is it really like that? Well, sometimes yes. Dr. Kent Moors shows why in this week's Spy Tale.

BEFORE THE BELL
Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) is a "safe" stock that has made a strong turnaround and could be good for those looking to go long.

What we're looking at is the uptrend that began in October.

WBA has been trading in a channel noted by the red parallel lines which acts a sort of "price envelope" where the stock price swings high and low, but overall is trending higher.

Full confirmation of the uptrend occurred when the 50-day simple moving average crossed up over the 200sma for the golden cross noted by the gray bubble.

The three gold arrows show the swing lows to the 50sma which is the trending bounce point at the time, but if you're going long, this may be a good time to buy.
