| | Tomorrow is May 1st...
The unavoidable beginning of the annual deluge of "Sell in May and go away, but buy back on St. Leger Day" headlines that will be pinned to every form of news media...
(Yes, I'm aware of the irony.)
But it's worth noting that axioms like these aren't "rules" that are to be blindly followed... especially when you factor in the data...
Buy-and-hold has proven over the years to outperform taking a summer vacation from the market and on a long term outlook, the latter pales in comparison.
Obviously, time horizon is key here...
I point this out because the market is rife with tidbits of conventional "wisdom" that could use a little more substance.
It's true. Returns are generally lower after April.
However, maybe an improvement on the phrase would simply be, "Don't buy in May."
But from the trader's corner, there's always a way to bring in the returns no matter the time of year...
Rogue Investing's resident options coach and chokehold expert Chris Hood rakes in a couple grand a week on average...
I'll let him tell you about it below.
Keep moving, | | | | | | | | | Crypto Highs, Big Tech Shortage, Tencent or Tenbillion?
-
Little Brother's New Record - Bitcoin's younger sibling, Ethereum, put cryptocurrency enthusiasts on FOMO watch on Thursday as it printed new highs. Breaking above the $2,800 mark, the world's second largest digital asset on news that the European Investment Bank had stepped into the cryptocurrency world by issued the first digital bond on Ethereum's blockchain. And to think that cryptocurrency would never go mainstream...

Wanted: More Chips - It turns out the chip and semiconductor shortage isn't just a thorn in the side of automobile manufacturers. Yesterday, Apple (AAPL) and Samsung both reported that sales have suffered from the lack of supply and will likely dampen earnings reports for the rest of 2021. Concern is growing that another wave of coronavirus infections could dampen manufacturing operations which would bring supply down even further. Rumors have circled that Utz Brands (UTZ) has been approached to help with the matter although experts have stated the company manufactures entirely different chips.
| | | | - China Wants More Than a Dime - Continuing its raid on Big Tech, Chinese regulators have moved on from Jack Ma and onto Tencent Holdings (OTC:TCEHY). The Chinese tech giant has come under scrutiny based on antitrust laws and will likely see a fine of 10 billion yuan for failing to report various acquisitions and other competitive penalties, according to Reuters. But when your market cap is over $600 billion, what's a few yuan?
- Flowers Go Big - Boxed flowers that you have to set up yourself have done well during the pandemic and 1-800-FLOWERS (FLWR) has the stats to prove it. In yesterday's earnings report, the company delivered a beat that sent the stock upwards of over 20%. 1-800-FLOWERS reported earnings that showed an over 120% increase from one year ago and has continued to surprise analysts each quarter... Still overpriced.

| | | - Wealthy Flee To Dubai: San Francisco? Forget it. Singapore? Still too retrograde. Dubai is where it's at, and where the wealthy are fleeing pandemics and unstable political situations. A record 84 properties in the most famous part of the United Arab Emirates switched hands last month - and every single one was worth more than $2.7 million. Who would have thought the Middle East is where the rich would go to flee chaos?
- USA To Citizens In India - GET OUT: It sounds like something out of a zombie movie. Using the highest level advisory, the U.S. State Department took the extraordinary step of warning Americans not to go to the country and/or to leave as soon as possible. India's COVID-19 wave is shocking in scope, perhaps the worst any part of the globe has experienced over the pandemic. An incredible 379,257 new cases have been reported just over the last 24 hours, and the Indian hospital system is on the brink of collapse.
- Costa Rica Imposes Lockdown: "We are in an unprecedented situation, and many people are going to die." Not exactly the most reassuring message from Health Minister Daniel Salas, but Costa Rica is dealing with a crisis. It's not quite on the scale of India, but in the small nation, it's enough to force life to a standstill. From May 3-9 almost every non-essential business will be forced to close. Scratch another possible escape off the list.
| | | | CUTTING EDGE: What's Happening In Tech
- Blue Origin Prime - While Amazon celebrates its incredible earnings, Jeff Bezos is already moving on to the next big thing. Blue Origin will soon begin selling tickets on the rocket "New Shepard" for wannabe outer space tourists. More details (including cost) will reportedly come on May 5. Blue Origin is currently challenging the federal government's decision to award a lucrative contract for America's return to the moon to Elon Musk's SpaceX.
- "Energy Attack" Near White House? - The federal government is reportedly investigating two possible incidents on American soil of the use of energy weapons. One incident occurred near the White House last November. The incidents are similar to attacks that reportedly sickened American embassy workers in Havana and supposedly some American troops overseas. "Havana Syndrome" still has no explanation but there are definite symptoms, including pounding headaches, vertigo, and "piercing directional noise." So we have that to worry about now.
- NYPD Grounds Robodog - The "Digidog" that was working with the NYPD has met the fate of Ole Yeller after public outrage. The unarmed robot simply creeped out too many people and also led to accusations of an overmilitarized police department intimidating low-income groups. The NYPD thus ended its contract with Boston Dynamics four months early. Of course, NYC still has to deal with a bigger problem than bad PR - there has been a 54% increase in shootings so far this year compared to the same time frame in 2020.
| | | | | | I guess people weren't ready for it | | | | FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION
"My goal is to average $3500.00 per week over the entire year using that capital as efficiently as possible."
Have big goals, have a specific plan, and then relentlessly execute. Options trading sounds complicated, but it's all about the process. And you've got someone who's already figured it out. If the above is what you want, you've got the best in your corner, Options Coach Chris Hood. Now's the time to act.
| | | | | | | ReneSola (SOL) has had a rough go of it the last few months, but it could be an opportunity to accumulate.
Take a look at the gray box... This is has been tested multiple times recently and is also where the 200-day simple moving average is located (gold arrow).
The gold trendlines show a falling wedge, but the stock has broken out of it recently...
I'd look for a head fake here and a slow, continued trend upwards.
