The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) proposed a revenue procedure earlier this week to "improve tip reporting compliance," reduce administrative costs, and increase transparency and certainty for taxpayers. After a lengthy period of public comment, the IRS may threaten to remove liability protection related to "rules that define tips as part of an employee's pay" from businesses that refuse to participate in the program. In an interview with Fox News Digital on Wednesday, Republican Representative Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania said that the nation's capital has a spending problem, not a revenue problem. Adrian Smith (R-NE), a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee, echoed Kelly's statements.
