Politico reports that although though she is no longer the official leader of the House of Representatives, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi still wields significant influence behind the scenes.
Even though Pelosi gave up the speakership after nearly two decades in power to California Republican Kevin McCarthy, she is still very much in charge. As a result, the former speaker has had a hard time being accepted as a regular member of the House Democrats' caucus, and her colleagues are split on who to look to.
New Democratic minority leadership like New York's Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Massachusetts's Minority Whip Katherine Clark have taken over although Pelosi still maintains a firm grip on her position.
Since Pelosi has been in a similar situation before, she has been preparing her colleagues for a potential debt limit argument with the House Republicans.
