Midyear 2024 Omnia Roundtable Dear Reader, The first half of 2024 was a great one for the stock market. As we discussed in a previous Market 360, the S&P 500, Dow and NASDAQ all hit record highs, and the Dow broke above 40,000. The artificial intelligence megatrend also continued to march forward. In fact, NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA) was responsible for more than one-third of the S&P 500’s 14.5% return in the first six months of the year. I’m proud to say that I recommended NVIDIA back in May 2019 in Growth Investor – well before AI had caught Wall Street’s attention. Since my recommendation, NVDA is sitting pretty with a whopping 2,941% gain on my Growth Investor Buy List. The trend of presidential election years being positive for the market continues as well, but everyone is concerned about the deep political divide in our country right now and what it could mean for the markets as 2024 draws to a close. In addition, the progress on inflation stalled out and the Federal Reserve failed to cut key interest rates. If you recall, at the beginning of the year, traders were predicting as many as seven rate cuts from the Fed in 2024. And now, the Fed is planning on just one rate cut this year. The global political stage has only gotten more chaotic. War in the Middle East has only added to the anxiety felt by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
