On Monday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law that will put the media conglomerate Disney under the jurisdiction of a state board, thereby ending the company's self-governance.
Ahead of the bill's signing, DeSantis instructed everyone in attendance to check their watches so they would know "what time the corporate kingdom came to an end."
Under House 9B, the Reedy Creek Improvement District, in which Disney World is located, would be renamed the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, with membership restricted to those who have not worked for or been contracted by Disney within the past three years.
DeSantis named the five new board members who will hold their inaugural meeting next week. He also mentioned that evaluating the pay of local emergency workers will be a high priority. |
